Message from the President
There are many problems that face us going into the year of 2010 that needs to be addressed and solved prior to going forward! Mary Louise Herrick has worked very hard on our pending bills and has been able to pay a portion of them. We need to sufficiently change the way we do business, as we know it today. On January 23rd, the Executive Board met and resolved several of them. This task that we have taken on will not be an easy one, but I truly have faith and trust in the Executive Board we have in place today. The Executive Board and Board of Directors will continue working together to benefit our Hall. Harlan Barney has agreed to move us forward on the 501C3; Inge Eley is in the process of organizing the Bingo Teams. We really need your help in Bingo, try to give your Hall one day out of the month. I am sure that with all of the members we have, we will be able to meet this goal!
Reminder: on March 13th St. Patrick’s Day Party we are having a fundraiser for our Hall. I urge each one of our members to attend, our Hall needs you and your support more than ever before.
Thank you from your President,
Hilda Schmidt

St. Patrick’s Day Party
Put on your Green and come to Germania Hall on Saturday, March 13 for their Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party and Fundraiser. Dave Flynn is Chair and he requested we use all-volunteers in the kitchen and the wait staff. Donations for dessert are needed, too.
Dinners will be served in the Rathskellar from 5 to 8 PM, $10.95 for choice of Corned Beef and Cabbage or Irish stew with salad and dessert. There is a $5 entrance fee to Germania Hall. Everyone that has dinner will receive a free drink ticket as they go to the main ballroom. At 8 PM, the ballroom will open with a cash bar and dancing to music by John Deane until 11 PM.
All members need to attend this fundraiser as the Hall’s future depends on your attendance. Reservations not required for dinner, volunteers call Dave at 272-4417 or leave a message for him at the Hall.

AN APPEAL
From your Treasurer Mary Louise Herrick
Your Hall is in a tight situation financially and is appealing to all the members. What can you do to help? Come have dinner on Friday night, you can’t beat the price, entertainment, food, and service. Bring your friends and family to the Hall. Tell your family and friends about the Hall. Attend one of our many parties throughout the year. Have your party, wedding, or shower at the Hall. Work at Bingo once a month. Pay your 2010 dues …and of course any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated by sending to Germania Hall, 309 3rd Ave, Troy NY 12182.
This is your Hall. Please do whatever you can to help. We need people!! People=Profits!! We need you!! Please help!!

Reservations Chairperson, Susan Wells, says that payroll is a large expense, but using volunteers will help to cut down on this expense. She would like men and women to contact her at 235-1558 if they would be willing to volunteer for parties that are booked. There are birthday parties, baby showers and wedding showers coming up as well as wedding receptions. Anyone that helps will know they are doing their part to help the Hall.

As many of you know, we mail this newsletter as well as post it on our website and e-mail it to anyone that has e-mail. As we are trying to find ways to cut costs, (did you notice the theme?) we would like to know if you would rather get the newsletter in e-mail rather than regular mail. You can call Susan at 235-1558, e-mail at TroyGermania@aol.com or call the Hall and leave a message. If you are not getting e-mail, she does not have your e-address.

Betty and Marty Ratigan are organizing a trip to Germany from October 9th to 17th 2010. A video of the trip that starts in Zurich and ends in Amsterdam is available to be seen. This is a new ship being launched for this trip. As it is an open ticket, you can either go early and meet the ship or go after the cruise to other destinations. Brochures are available at the Hall with all the details or you can open the Adobe brochure here or contact Marty and Betty here.
