The Troy German Hall Association participates in a number of cultural and civic activities. These activities are for the benefit of the schools, the community and our members, which indirectly benefit our schools and community. These activities are funded in part by financial donations of Hall members, in part by profits from the Thursday night BINGO revenue, and in all cases by the donation of the time and labor by our members.
A sample of these activities is as follows. These activities change each year depending on the interests of our members and the availability of funds and labor.
For the Schools
Sponsors German Language Scholarships to area High Schools.
Sends Germania Hall Newsletters to area high schools teaching the German language.
For the Community through the years:
Donates yearly to the Troy Times Record Christmas Clothe a Child Drive.
Donates yearly, at Christmas to needy children of Public School No. 2.
Opens its facility and provides volunteers for the American Red Cross Blood Bank Drive.
Donates the use of the Hall premises for "Meet the Candidates" nights sponsored by the League
of Women Voters.
Provides the use of the premises to the Uncle Sam Day Parade Committee, and the various inner organizations promoting cultural activities.
Financially subsidizes the Uncle Sam Day Parade.
Provides breakfast, free of charge, to the Marine Marching Band, when marching in the Uncle Sam Day Parade.
Donates food periodically to the Bethany House, (a local food kitchen), Joseph's House and Four Doors Down, (a local food bank).
Donates its premises to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for its Benefit Dance.
Supports WMHT Public Television in its Annual Fund Drive by donating dinner packages to be auctioned.
Supports the Annual Leukemia Fund Drive.
Supports local organizations, churches, and German cultural organizations in advertising campaigns.
Lends tables, chairs, etc., to local organizations, churches and boys and girls clubs.
Other
Annually honors an Outstanding German-American Citizen, who has helped further German culture, each year.
Sponsors an Annual German Fest Event, promoting German culture, dance, music, and food.
Sponsors German Cultural events, such as Bavarian Night, Oktoberfest Night, and Fasching, or Carnival Night. All are open to the public.
Subsidizes the Troy Maennerchor and Maennerchor Damenverein by paying their music director, and a portion of their expenses when competing in Saengerbund competitions.
Sponsors Friday Night Dinners, open to the public, at reasonable prices.
